GENERAL

Mineral Sealer is a zero odor, zero VOC water resistant sealer specifically designed as a protective coat on lime-based plasters and lime paints for interior and exterior use. It can also be used on other types of plaster, including some finish coat gypsum brands. Mineral Sealer will give high water resistance and stain blocking properties while still being breathable. It will release excess moisture from the finish coating or substrate without bubbling or peeling.

For walls and ceilings only. Not suitable for complete waterproofing, only high resistance. Use Vasari Wax in on top of Mineral Sealer for further moisture resistance, such as in showers.

COVERAGE

5 gallons: 2000 square feet per one coat

1 gallon: 300-400 square feet per one coat

SUITABLE APPLICABLE SURFACES

Mineral Sealer is an all natural, odorless, zero VOC traditional penetrating sealer for use on lime and gypsum based finish coatings for water, dirt and stain resistance for interiors and exteriors. It’s also used as a preliminary sealer in showers before wax application. Sealer might leave minimal sheen and might slightly deepen color. Mineral Sealer is also a must for dark color colors, such as reds and black. It will block any extra dark tint from potentially rubbing off.

ENVIRONMENTAL / PROS and CONS OF SEALER

Lime Paint or Plaster is a natural mildewcide, naturally absorbs carbon dioxide, filters air and naturally absorbs excess humidity. There’s literally nothing like it when it comes pro-active environmental and health on the space. When a lime coating is sealed, much of these qualities will disappear, even though the sealer is all natural and partially breathable. If the walls are left unsealed, they are better environmentally, but will be more prone to stains, especially with heavy water. Moderate dirt scuff marks are easy to remove without sealer.

Unsealed, plaster or paint is easier to re-coat with having to sand / scuff the sealer.

Interiors: All interior wall and ceiling surfaces.

Exteriors: Mineral Sealer can be used on exterior lime based and gypsum surfaces with existing cement or lime based stucco.

Areas not recommended for Mineral Sealer: Water vessels, floors and counter tops.

Tools

Large sponge or rag

Spray: airless pressure: 300 psi Tip: 0.015-0.019

Handheld spray bottle

Recommended Film Thickness – 0.01

Dry Time @ 77 °F (25 °C) @ 50% RH – To Touch 5 minutes – To re-coat 5 minutes if necessary,

Dries by evaporation, coalescence.

Never add other paints or solvents.

APPLICATION

Apply in two continuous coats (one right after the other) to ensure maximum protection. Wipe off drips as they form.

Using a sponge: Wipe it on as you’re washing a wall. The plaster or paint will quickly absorb the sealer at which time a second coat or pass of sealer is recommended. Buff out the sealer when the second coat begins to dry. Use a dry rag or dry sponge to buff out any excess sealer or suds.

Spraying Apply the sealer and back wipe it with a dry rag or sponge. Apply twice, one coat after the other.

Showers: Use ample amount of sealer on shower walls. We highly recommend Vasari Wax after the sealer for plastering a shower (or Tadelakt).

White haze from excessive application:

On darker colors, the mineral sealer might dry as a white cloudy area if it is excessively applied or not immediately buffed after application. If this occurs, you can usually rub it off with a damp cloth. You can also use a heat gun by warming the area in question and buffing out any whiteness. You can also add more sealer onto the area in question, and buff out.

CLEAN UP

Mask any absorbent surfaces such as wood or raw stone when applying the sealer. Cleans easily with water.

MAINTENANCE

Re-apply Mineral Sealer if visible water penetration occurs or if more protection against dirt and water is required. In normal dry conditions, Mineral Sealer will not degrade or change color and should maintain its sealing properties indefinitely.

RE-APPLYING LIME PAINT OR PLASTER OVER SEALER

If Lime Paint or Plaster needs to be re-applied after the sealer has been applied, scuff the walls with 120 to 220 grit sandpaper to create ‘tooth’ on the surface for new material to adhere. Thoroughly wipe off any dust prior to application. Apply two coats of plaster for re-application. Re-seal in necessary.

SHELF LIFE AND STORAGE

Mineral Sealer can be stored indefinitely. DO NOT FREEZE. Allow 48 hours to thaw before using. Stir well before using.
